Madam Zhang Sujiu is the youngest daughter of the famous patriotic military officer, General Zhang Zhizhong, and she is also a famous patriotic overseas Chinese leader in south California, USA. As an overseas adviser of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and a director of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, she attended, organized and led many important social activities of the overseas Chinese circle in south California. Madam Zhang Sujiu is a community leader having influence on the circle of overseas Chinese in USA, and meanwhile she is also a successful educator and entrepreneur.
Zhang Sujiu was well educated and influenced by her father Zhang Zhizhong ever since she was very young. When Chairman Mao Zedong went to Chongqing attending the negotiation between the Communist Party and the Nationalist Party in 1945, the General Zhang Zhizhong once provided his Guiyuan official mansion in Chongqing to Chaieman Mao as his office. At that time the primary school student Zhang Sujiu still lived in Guiyuan so at home she saw Chairman Mao Zedong, who negotiating in Chongqing for many times.
After the Liberation of all over China Zhang Sujiu was graduated from the department of Civil Engineering in Tsinghua University and she taught in Tianjin University from 1957 for twenty years.
In 1981 Zhang Sujiu traveled to USA. At first she was engaged in academic research in the University of Kentucky and later being an engineer in a high-tech company in Silicon Valley, California. Since 1992 Zhang Sujiu had been the president in Anqi Science and Technology Development Center cooperating with The Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China and China Science and Technology Exchange Center, organizing China the first manager training course of stock and security and the first manager training course of real estate to USA.
In 1999 Zhang Sujiu was invited by the president of Tsinghua University Wang Dazhong being the president of North America Education Foundation in Tsinghua University. Under the instruction of the famous scientist and the winner of Nobel Prize Yang Zhenning, Ding Zhaozhong and the incumbent president of Tsinghua University Gu Binglin, She raised much money for Tsinghua University in USA. Zhang Sujiu also established “North America Tsinghua” magazine and website for the alumnus in North America and friends, who concerned about the development of Tsinghua, and providing a means to thoroughly know about Alma Mater and the development of Tsinghua University.
After China won the 2008 Olympic Games Zhang Sujiu actively took part in overseas Chinese establishing Beijing symbolic Olympic gyms. She organized Chinese-Americans in south California attending the activity of donating and establishing the 2008 Olympic Games “National Aquatics Center”. In the Beijing Olympic three-year anniversary victory meeting of Beijing Overseas Chinese Affairs Office there were 1400 donators and more than 600 from south California. The action of their donation was praised by the meeting.
As the offspring of the patriotic military officer Zhang Zhizhong, Zhang Sujiu doesn’t forget the great undertaking of promoting motherland peace and unity at any time. At the beginning of 2004 when Chen Shuibian put forward the 320 public vote brazenly. Zhang Sujiu started and established a “For One China” website, www.ForOneChina.com appeal all Chinese-Americans sign names actively against American Congressmen supporting Chen Shuibian 320 public vote. During the short eight days there are twenty thousand Chinese sign names to support, which expressed overseas Chinese opposing Taiwan's Pro-independence and supporting the wish of “For One China”.
Recently she and some other overseas Chinese leaders promote two events. One is striving for holding the ceremony of the Buddhist bone relic in Famen Temple, Xian; the other is to accelerate the 2008 New Year Chinese mainland float performing in Pasadena Rose Parade USA.
Every year on the morning of Jan. 1st the city of Pasadena hold the Rose Parade. It will be broadcast live to more than 400,000,000 audiences and it is the most influential flower car parade. During the one hundred history of the Rose Parade there is no Chinese mainland flower car attending the parade. However Taiwan’s attends every year and being awarded. On Jan 1st, 2008 by Zhang Sujiu’s promotion there is eventually a Beijing 2008 Olympic Game float attending the 119th Pasadena Rose Parade USA, and the float won the award of the best theme.
